Community Energy Club, the oil buying club run by local charity Community Energy Plus, has strengthened its team with the appointment of a Development Officer, Jacqui Piper, to extend the services provided by the club.
Jacqui will be delivering some exciting changes to the club in months to come, drawing on extensive experience both as an industrial based environmental scientist and within the wider sustainability sector, having previously worked for Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (CoaST) helping hundreds of tourism businesses across Cornwall to become more sustainable.
Jacqui’s post is supported by a £60,000 award from the Department of Energy and Climate Change to the club in January to develop their services. Her support will see Community Energy Club expanding into Devon, and increasing their customer base across Cornwall to include businesses and communities as well as householders.
Jacqui said: “With over half of Cornwall off the gas grid, the group buying potential of this club is huge. We’re still finding people are paying way over the odds for their oil, with one recent new customer saving a record £107 on his order through us. We’ve got lots of exciting plans for the club in the next few months. We’re going to be updating our website and making it mobile-optimised to make it easier and quicker for customers to place orders. We’re also going to be looking into other fuels we can bulk buy, and new customer bases.”
Nicola McCheyne, Project Delivery Team Manager at Community Energy Plus, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jacqui to the team, and are looking forward to seeing how the club develops in the next few months.”
The club, which was developed in response to rising oil prices, recently celebrated the milestone of ordering one million litres of oil since its conception in November 2011, and is over 1500 members strong.
