Help for West Cornwall households concerned about winter fuel bills

Householders in West Cornwall who are worried about the rising costs of keeping warm this winter can find out how to reduce their energy bills at an ‘Energy Best Deal’ workshop.

The free workshop is being held at Age Concern, St Just on Tuesday 26th November, 10.30am to 12pm by Community Energy Plus.  It is part of the ‘Energy Best Deal’ project which is run by Citizens Advice and Ofgem and has been funded by energy suppliers to provide help to reduce the energy bills of the most vulnerable households across the country.

The session will cover a range of topics including understanding your bill; getting to grips with the different tariffs and payment methods; what to do if you are in debt with your fuel company; how to use less energy; and the help that is available towards energy costs and to make homes more energy efficient.

The first event in St Just will be followed by seven further sessions at venues across Cornwall over the next five months, led by Community Energy Plus’s Senior Project Officer Rob Pickering.  Nationally, the project has helped 250,000 people with their energy bills since it launched in 2008.

Rob Pickering said: “People are increasingly worried about how they will pay their energy bill this winter. Through Energy Best Deal we are helping people seek out the cheapest deal; get to grips with the different tariffs and payment methods and explain what they can do if they’re in debt with their fuel company.  We’re also helping people use less energy and explaining how they can make their home more energy efficient.”
