Drop in advice surgery for Treneere residents

Residents of Treneere and surrounding areas will have the opportunity to find out about ways they can keep their home warm and save on energy bills during a special drop in event held by Cornish fuel poverty charity Community Energy Plus.

Community Energy Plus Senior Project Officer Rob Pickering will be at the Treneere Together Partnership office on Wednesday 20th February from 9.30am to 12.30pm and local residents are invited to drop by to ask questions and get advice.

In addition to the drop in, the team at Community Energy Plus will also be providing free home visits in Treneere over the next few months, in a push to improve energy efficiency across the whole area.

They will also be encouraging people to take advantage of a free external wall insulation offer and funding for loft and cavity wall insulation, heating systems and draught-proofing. Free insulation is becoming less common due to the introduction of the Green Deal, and customers will only be able to take advantage of this offer for a few weeks longer, so contact Community Energy Plus on 0800 954 1956 as soon as possible to find out if you might be eligible. The scheme is open to those who own their own home, or rent privately, who are in receipt of qualifying benefits, and struggling to keep their home warm and pay bills.

Rob Pickering, Project Officer at Community Energy Plus said: “It’s great to get out and about in the community to help people with their energy bills. Often we find that people will bury their head in the sand when it comes to big bills, or feel that they are trying hard to reduce them but they just won’t go down. The drop in event will be a chance for people to come in with the energy bills or ask for advice regarding energy use and staying warm. We can then go one step further if necessary and carry out a home visit, which will allow us to give really in-depth advice. We will also be able to see why a house might potentially be using a lot of energy, and what steps can be taken to address this, including any available funding.”
