Cornwall’s Independent Energy Experts gain International Quality Mark

Community Energy Plus, the Cornish social enterprise which provides services for householders, communities and businesses to reduce their energy use and harness the potential of renewable energy resources, has achieved the prestigious ISO 9001 standard for its Quality Management Systems.

The Camborne based social enterprise, which secured the ISO 14001 accreditation for its Environmental Management Systems in 2010, was awarded the internationally recognised quality mark after an independent assessment of its quality control processes by the systems and services certification assessors SGS.

Ian Smith, Managing Director of Community Energy Plus, said: “ISO management systems are increasingly becoming vital for working with public and private sector partners. They also provide tremendous value by ensuring that appropriate processes are thoroughly embedded to help us become a more efficient and effective across all areas of our operations.  We’ve always prided ourselves on putting customer satisfaction at the heart of what we do and achieving our second ISO standard demonstrates that commitment while putting us on a competitive footing for the future.”

Since 1997 the Camborne based social enterprise has delivered a variety of innovative projects relating to energy efficiency and renewable energy including community ownership models.  Their loft and cavity wall insulation schemes have helped over 25,000 households in Cornwall save £2.5 million a year on their energy bills while their work with community buildings and projects across the county has seen the installation of over 1MW of renewable energy capacity, which is enough to meet the electrical needs of around 600 homes.

A grant from the government’s Transition Fund last spring has been used to help Community Energy Plus gain the two ISO standards as part of their work to adapt to the changing funding climate and develop new services to sit alongside and financially support the provision of their fuel poverty prevention services.

Community Energy Plus’ trading arm, Low Carbon Futures, will be sharing the expertise gained from obtaining and maintaining the ISO accreditations to include management systems mentoring as part of their range of services to support Cornish businesses.
