Sustainable Energy Communities - West Cornwall

Rural communities in West Cornwall are being encouraged to become more energy efficient and harness the opportunities presented by renewable energy technology in a new project to help locals lead more sustainable lives.
A Sustainable Energy Community Officer has been appointed to help groups in West Cornwall develop a range of projects that will help local communities react to the challenge of rising energy prices and climate change and stimulate interest in community-owned renewable energy opportunities.
The project is funded by the West Cornwall Local Action Partnership which is part financed by the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) using funding from the EU and Defra.
The two year project will see Community Energy Plus’s Rob Pickering working within rural communities in West Cornwall. Rob will be working with existing local community groups as well as helping new groups of sustainably minded residents to set up and deliver a variety of sustainable energy projects, focused on helping them understand their current energy usage and how to move to more sustainable solutions.
Activity will concentrate on creating projects within the South Kerrier and Land’s End Peninsula areas, although it is hoped that other communities within West Cornwall may also come forward to seek support for their own projects.
Rob Pickering can be reached on 07976 490957 or by email rob@cep.org.uk

A new energy saving club has been launched to help householders in the St Ives area reduce their energy bills, thereby saving money and cutting carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.
The new group, which will be called the ‘100 Club’ will be free to join and is being set up to help householders reduce their energy bills, thereby saving money and cutting carbon emissions that contribute to climate change.
The 100 Club aims to recruit one hundred local members over the coming months.
As well as providing information and advice, the group has a number of energy monitors that can provide electricity consumption readings for electrical appliances, from TVs to toasters. Club members will be able to borrow the monitors to see at a glance what the cost is in energy and money terms for a range of everyday domestic equipment and take action to make a real difference to how much they spend on their bills.
For more information about the 100 Club please contact Andy Williams on 01736 799636 or Rob Pickering at rob@cep.org.uk or 01209 614975 ext 215.
